Pulaski County Democrats Encourage Voters to Prioritize Local Races Ahead of Election Day

Little Rock, Ark. – As Election Day approaches on Nov. 3, the Pulaski County Democratic Party is calling on voters to turn their attention to the local races that will shape daily life in the county. Party chair Caleb Conrad emphasized that local officials have the most immediate impact on issues such as health‑care access, rising grocery and gas prices, and community safety.

Local candidates and community concerns

Conrad noted that this election cycle features more local Democratic candidates than any year since 2014. “People lose their voice and lose confidence in the system,” he said, “and I hope we can put in some leaders, some Democrats, next week to bring our voices to the Capitol and to our local institutions as well.” The party’s platform stresses improving health‑care availability, lowering the cost of essential goods, and opposing U.S. involvement in foreign wars.

Second vice‑chair Alyson Clyburn warned that national politics can make voters feel their ballots don’t matter. “A lot of folks get hung up on national politics and think, ‘my vote doesn’t matter,’” she said. “What’s happening at the national level doesn’t impact me as directly as what’s happening in your backyard.” Clyburn added that social media platforms like TikTok have helped her stay informed about statewide ballot measures.

Past leadership stresses accountability

Former chair Wanda Bynum Ashley echoed the call for accountability, saying many elected officials seem to go along with others rather than address core community issues. “We feel like now we have elected officials who simply go along with others and not actually deal with the issues that they should be actually handling,” she said.

Both Conrad and Bynum Ashley highlighted the community’s frustration with soaring prices. “Everything’s just gone up. Prices are astronomical,” Bynum Ashley remarked, underscoring the urgency of local solutions.

Voting logistics and outreach

Pulaski County currently offers 12 early‑voting locations, with early voting running through Oct. 31. On Election Day, the county will operate 84 polling sites across 136 precincts, open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters can find locations and hours at votepulaskiar.gov.

To help ensure turnout, the party plans to provide rides to polling places during both early voting and Election Day. The outreach effort aims to make voting accessible for seniors, families, and anyone facing transportation barriers.

What voters can expect

Local races on the ballot include county commissioner seats, school board positions, and municipal offices that directly influence public‑service delivery, zoning decisions, and community development. While national headlines dominate the news cycle, these local contests determine who will make decisions about road maintenance, public safety funding, and the allocation of resources for health‑care clinics.

Voters are encouraged to review candidate statements, attend any remaining candidate forums, and consider how each contender’s platform aligns with the community’s priorities. By focusing on the local ballot, residents can help ensure that their voices are heard where it matters most – in the offices that manage everyday services and policies.

Final reminder

With just a week left before the polls open, Pulaski County Democrats stress the importance of early voting and personal outreach. Whether you’re driving to a polling site or receiving a ride from a volunteer, the message is clear: your vote in local races matters, and it can bring tangible change to health‑care access, cost of living, and community well‑being.
