Lewisville GoZone rides surge 14% as DCTA moves ahead with $40 million Old Town Station plan

Lewisville residents will see more on‑demand rides and a new transit‑oriented development after the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) announced two major updates during its recent board meeting. The agency approved a nonbinding memorandum of understanding with Anchor Capital Partners LLC to move forward on a $40 million Old Town Station project, and GoZone ridership in Lewisville has risen about 14% over the past year, according to kdhnews.com.

GoZone, DCTA’s on‑demand rideshare service that operates in Denton, Lewisville and Highland Village, was introduced in 2021 and allows riders to book trips via a mobile app for fares starting at $1.50 per person. While demand in Denton has slipped from about 60,000 monthly requests in fiscal year 2025 to about 55,000 in fiscal year 2026, Lewisville’s usage has been “steadily increasing since at least fiscal year 2022,” reaching a level comparable to Denton, kdhnews.com reported.

DCTA CEO Paul Cristina highlighted the growth, saying, “GoZone in Lewisville has been tremendously successful, growing about 14% last year.” He added that Highland Village saw fourth‑quarter demand up about 15% from 2025. In response to the rising demand, DCTA began shifting more GoZone vehicles toward Lewisville and Highland Village in 2024 and renewed its contract with Via Transportation Inc. in September 2024 for roughly $11 million, with another renewal completed last fall. The agency also expanded GoZone service to Frisco this summer.

The Old Town Lewisville Transit‑Oriented Development is a partnership among DCTA, the city of Lewisville and Denton County. Announced in July 2025, the $40 million project will create a mixed‑use district that includes office space, housing, retail, dining and public areas within walking distance of the A‑train platform. The plan calls for a new three‑story DCTA headquarters featuring a waiting area, retail and restaurant space, a covered plaza, parking for buses, cars and rideshare vehicles, and a “kiss‑and‑ride” drop‑off zone.

“We are excited to have selected a development partner and to be working to finalize a Master Developer Agreement,” Cristina said in a statement, noting that the project is expected to generate economic benefits by attracting new businesses and residents to the A‑train corridor.

What’s next: The DCTA board’s approval clears the way for negotiations on a Master Developer Agreement with Anchor Capital Partners. Once the agreement is finalized, design and construction phases will begin, with the agency indicating that the new station and headquarters are slated for completion in the coming years. Residents can look forward to expanded transit options and new commercial and residential opportunities near the Old Town Station.
