Memorial Medical Center disclosed a $10 million investment to modernize its Las Cruces campus, enhancing the hospital’s exterior, parking facilities and the Emergency Department. The projects, slated to begin in early November, will be carried out in phases through 2027 to keep services available.
Exterior and parking improvements
The largest portion, a $5 million exterior renovation, will update finishes, signage and directional cues to help patients and visitors navigate the campus. Work is expected to start before the end of 2026 and continue into 2027.
More than $3 million will be allocated to restoring parking areas, including pavement milling, resurfacing, restriping, accessible stalls, fire lanes, directional arrows and pedestrian walkways. Parking work is scheduled to begin in November and finish in the first quarter of 2027.
Emergency Department upgrades
Over $1 million will be directed toward the Emergency Department, adding new flooring, paint, lighting, window treatments, wall protection, cabinetry, upgraded electrical finishes and a redesigned nursing station. These changes aim to improve patient flow and the overall experience for patients and staff. Construction on the department is set to start in January 2027, with completion later that year.
Community and political support
State Sen. Crystal Brantley (R‑District 35) praised the investment, noting that modernizing healthcare facilities strengthens care quality for families and demonstrates a long‑term commitment to the community. State Rep. Raymundo Lara (D‑District 34) highlighted the importance of timely, quality emergency care, while Rep. Rebecca Dow (R‑District 38) called the project an investment in the community’s health and future generations.
Interim CEO Caryn Iverson emphasized that the investment reflects the hospital’s commitment to listening to the people it serves and to strengthening local healthcare for patients, staff and the broader Doña Ana County community.
Ongoing construction plan
Memorial will phase construction to maintain access to hospital services, providing advance notices, bilingual signage and website updates to guide visitors through temporary changes to parking, entrances and pedestrian routes. The hospital is coordinating with city, county and state officials as the projects move forward, and additional interior renovations are planned beyond the three major initiatives.
