Fan Interrupts NBA Finals Game 1 to Take Selfie with Victor Wembanyama

During Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, an unusual interruption occurred when a fan ran onto the court in an attempt to take a selfie with Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ star player. The incident took place midway through the fourth quarter with the New York Knicks leading 92-86.

Unexpected Court Intrusion

The fan managed to reach Wembanyama while the Spurs were on offense. Security swiftly intervened, escorting the individual off the court before any contact with players was made. Replays showed Wembanyama smiling, albeit looking confused by the unexpected encounter. Reflecting on the incident, Wembanyama expressed his surprise, comparing it to a previous unusual event when a bat interrupted a game in 2024.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson downplayed the incident, stating, “I don’t think it was an event at all. I thought security got him out of there. I think everybody moved on to the next play.” The game resumed shortly after with a jump ball.

Game Outcome

Despite the brief disruption, the Knicks secured a 105-95 victory over the Spurs, extending their playoff win streak to 12 games, a notable achievement in NBA history. The series will continue with Game 2 scheduled for Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
