The Levitt Pavilion Puts Free Live Music in Irving Every Weekend

The Levitt Pavilion in Irving is an outdoor amphitheater that puts on free concerts every weekend from spring through fall, and it has been doing so consistently enough that locals treat it less like a special occasion and more like a standing appointment.

The venue sits along the south edge of Campion Trail near Northwest Highway, on a grassy slope that faces a covered stage. It’s a simple setup — lawn chairs and blankets, a food truck or two parked nearby, and whoever is on the bill that evening playing to a crowd that tends to run from young families to people well past retirement. The mix is part of what makes it work. Nobody is here to be seen; they’re here because it’s Saturday night and the music is free.

The Levitt Foundation funds a network of these pavilions across the country, and Irving’s version draws real acts — not just local cover bands, though there are those too. Past seasons have included Afro-Cuban jazz, Tejano, Americana, West African drumming, and country blues. The programming rotates enough that you can show up three weekends in a row and hear something entirely different each time. The calendar is posted on their website well in advance, and most Irving regulars check it the same way they check weather.

Getting there is easy. The address is 100 W. Pioneer Drive, and there’s surface parking nearby, though on warmer evenings it fills up. Arriving 30 to 45 minutes before showtime is usually enough to snag a decent patch of grass. The lawn slopes gently, so sightlines are good from most spots. Bring something to sit on — the ground is comfortable enough, but chairs are better for a two-hour show.

Food trucks change by the week, typically parked along the perimeter. In past seasons you’d find tacos, barbecue sandwiches, kettle corn, and shaved ice. Prices are what you’d expect from a truck: $3 to $12 for most items. There’s no alcohol sold on site, but the pavilion is BYOB-friendly, which a lot of the regulars take full advantage of. You’ll see coolers ranging from modest to optimistic.

Shows typically start at 7:30 p.m. and run about two hours. Spring and fall are the best seasons to go — the weather cooperates and the crowds are lively without being overwhelming. Summer shows are still worth attending, but plan for heat. The covered stage area catches a breeze most evenings, and if you position yourself on the left side of the lawn, you tend to get more shade in the later hours.

What stands out about the Levitt compared to other free concert series in the area is the consistency. This isn’t a once-a-summer thing or a festival with corporate sponsors plastered everywhere. It runs every weekend for months, with enough variety in the lineup that it rewards return visits. Irving doesn’t always get credit for its cultural programming, but the Levitt is a legitimate civic asset — one that a lot of people outside the city don’t know about until someone drags them out on a Friday night and they end up staying for the whole set.
