Fan Disrupts NBA Finals Game 1 with On-Court Selfie Attempt

In a surprising turn of events during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, a fan managed to run onto the court at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, attempting to take a selfie with San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. This incident unfolded midway through the fourth quarter while the Spurs were on offense against the New York Knicks.

The fan was swiftly intercepted by two security guards and escorted off the court, ensuring no contact was made with the players. Replays showed Wembanyama smiling and appearing confused by the unexpected encounter. The game was momentarily paused but quickly resumed with a jump ball.

Reflecting on the incident, Wembanyama commented, “I’ve never been in that situation. I didn’t know how to act,” adding that it surprised him as much as a previous incident involving a bat on the court in 2024.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson downplayed the event, stating, “I don’t think it was an event at all. I thought security got him out of there. I think everybody moved on to the next play.” Despite the interruption, the Knicks maintained their momentum, securing a 105-95 victory over the Spurs, extending their playoff win streak to 12 games.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled to take place on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio. The incident highlights the importance of security measures in maintaining the safety and integrity of sporting events.
