In Miami-Dade County, authorities have taken decisive action against an unlicensed post-operative recovery facility, forcing several cosmetic surgery patients to vacate the premises. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested Kerri Smith, who allegedly operated the facility under the name ‘Snatched N Curved’ near Country Walk.
Patients, many of whom were in the early stages of recovery from recent surgeries, were left scrambling to find alternative care. Janelle Dunn, one of the displaced patients, expressed her distress, stating, ‘Now we’re scrambling. I just had surgery Friday. Somebody else had surgery two days ago. Somebody had surgery yesterday.’
Investigators revealed that Smith’s facility charged $300 per night for services such as bathing, dressing, eating, and medication assistance, despite lacking proper licensing. Patient Nalani Hernandez noted that residents were left without guidance following Smith’s arrest. ‘The owner said, basically, we had to figure this out on our own,’ Hernandez said.
The Sheriff’s office has been monitoring similar unlicensed facilities across Miami-Dade County, estimating that dozens operated in 2025 without trained staff or emergency protocols. This issue gained attention after a young mother tragically died at a recovery home last year, prompting a South Florida lawmaker to push for new regulations. Unfortunately, the proposed legislation did not pass in Tallahassee.
Smith’s business partner was previously arrested in March for operating a similar facility under the same name. Both individuals have faced similar charges in the past, with the business reportedly earning over $200,000 since October of last year. Smith remains in custody, held on separate charges in addition to her current bond.
As patients continue to seek alternative recovery options, the community is reminded of the importance of ensuring that healthcare facilities are properly licensed and staffed to provide safe and effective care.
