Klein Independent School District announced that construction on a major safety and facilities upgrade at Klein Collins High School will begin in the spring of 2027 and finish by September 2028. The $29 million project, financed through the district’s $900 million 2022 bond, targets two key areas: traffic congestion along Ella Boulevard and a comprehensive renovation of the school’s auditorium.
Traffic‑safety improvements
District officials said the new design will create a dedicated drop‑off and pick‑up lane for students, easing the current bottleneck that often backs up traffic during morning and afternoon peaks. Repaving of campus driveways is also included, providing a smoother, safer surface for the daily flow of students, staff, families and visitors.
“Reducing congestion and improving safety for our students and the surrounding community is a top priority,” a Klein ISD spokesperson said. “These changes reflect the community‑approved bond’s commitment to modern, functional schools that protect our children.”
Auditorium modernization
The auditorium renovation will bring the performance space up to the standards of other high schools in the district. Upgrades will include new lighting, sound equipment, and seating, as well as expanded instructional areas for fine‑arts programs, rehearsals and school events. The project also addresses needed repairs to the Nutrition and Food Services area, ensuring the entire campus remains in good condition.
“We are grateful to the Klein ISD community for approving the 2022 Bond program and making these important improvements possible,” the spokesperson added. “This project is another example of our commitment to honoring that investment by prioritizing student safety, maintaining our facilities, and providing exceptional learning environments for generations of Klein ISD students.”
Funding and timeline
The $29 million price tag comes directly from the 2022 bond that voters approved in May 2022. The bond also funds a variety of other capital projects across the district, ranging from classroom additions to technology upgrades. Construction is slated to start in spring 2027, with a projected completion date of September 2028, allowing the school to resume normal operations with minimal disruption.
Local residents and parents have expressed strong support for the project, noting that safer traffic patterns and a modern auditorium will enhance both daily school life and community events held on the campus.
What this means for the community
Beyond improving safety for students, the upgraded auditorium will serve as a venue for community performances, graduations and other gatherings, reinforcing Klein ISD’s role as a hub for local culture and family activities. The project underscores the district’s ongoing effort to invest in infrastructure that supports academic excellence, extracurricular achievement, and the well‑being of families throughout the Klein area.
