Olympus Junior High has been named FOX13’s Cool School of the Week, a recognition that highlights the school’s strong sense of community and the many ways students can explore interests while building lasting relationships.
Arts, Music and Performance
Students at Olympus enjoy a robust arts offering that includes jazz band, orchestra, choir, band and a Dance Company. The dance program even lets participants choreograph their own pieces for the semi‑annual performances, with the next show slated for December 2. “Coming together as a community, all of us performing amazing feats makes us a really cool school,” said student Grayson Hamer.
The school’s theater department is gearing up for a production of High School Musical, giving students another stage to showcase talent. Granite Credit Union joined FOX13 News to honor theater teacher Mrs. Land with a donation for her dedication. “I love High School Musical; the third one is my favorite,” said Granite Credit Union marketing director Spencer Carver, adding that the whole community is invited to attend.
Sports and Intramural Activities
Olympus offers a wide range of intramural sports, from cross‑country and soccer to basketball, volleyball, track and field, wrestling and golf. These programs provide students with regular opportunities for physical activity, teamwork and school spirit.
Technology and Innovation
For tech‑savvy learners, the school’s LEGO coding program encourages creativity and problem‑solving. One student shared, “I think it’s fun to be able to explore and innovate and create cool things.” The program blends hands‑on building with introductory programming concepts, preparing students for future STEM pathways.
School Traditions that Strengthen Bonds
Beyond extracurriculars, Olympus Junior High maintains traditions that reinforce community ties. Red Ribbon Week, a highlight of the school calendar, features activities designed to strengthen relationships and promote a healthier campus environment.
Mrs. Land, a recent transplant to the district, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m new to the district and the school, and I’ve already had a wonderful experience here. I’m excited to do this play and to have a great time with our students and families.”
Community Support
Local partners like Granite Credit Union play a vital role in supporting school initiatives, underscoring the collaborative spirit that makes Olympus Junior High a model for other schools in Utah.
