Hollister, Mo. – Police Chief Bert Stirewalt announced the arrival of three freshly painted patrol cars, marking the first step in a department‑wide rebranding effort. The new vehicles replace the longtime all‑white fleet with a classic black‑and‑white paint scheme that includes blue accent stripes, a nod to the signature color of Hollister schools.
Design and cost
According to Chief Stirewalt, each vehicle cost roughly $75,000 to purchase and fully outfit. In addition to the exterior redesign, the cars feature updated interior lighting that officers say gives the cruisers a sleeker, more modern appearance.
Community symbolism
Stirewalt explained that the visual change is intended to send a clear message to residents: the department is evolving and committed to serving the community with renewed vigor. “When they see this one coming, they know the officer is going to take care of the situation and take care of them,” he said.
The blue accents were deliberately chosen to reflect the colors of Hollister High School and other local schools, reinforcing the department’s connection to youth and families. Hollister High School alumnus Connor Hunter praised the update, noting, “They are very involved with the school and helping students and events. I definitely like the blue. It gives the car a nice pop compared to before when it was just white and gray.”
Phased rollout
The three completed cruisers are already on the road, and the department plans to phase in the new design as older vehicles reach the end of their service life. Stirewalt emphasized that the rebranding is more than cosmetic; it is meant to symbolize reassurance and safety for neighbors throughout the town.
Looking ahead
While the new paint scheme is the most visible change, the department also anticipates future upgrades to equipment and training that will further enhance public safety. For now, the fresh graphics and school‑inspired colors serve as a visible reminder that Hollister Police is listening to community concerns and working toward a positive partnership.
