Cedar Park Moves Forward with $2.1 Million Contract for Lakeline Park Enhancements

The Cedar Park City Council has taken a significant step in enhancing the community’s connection to nature by approving a $2.1 million architectural contract for improvements at Lakeline Park. The contract, awarded to SWA Group, will facilitate the development of construction-ready plans for the park’s next phase, as outlined in the master plan approved in April.

Phase 2 Developments

Phase 2 of the park’s development will feature expanded trails, an elevated walkway through the tree canopy, a new parking lot on the south side, additional restrooms near the soccer fields, and a disc golf course. These enhancements aim to immerse residents more deeply in the natural beauty of the park, according to landscape architect Scott McCready. He emphasized the community’s desire to access the park’s more secluded natural areas, which will be made possible through these improvements.

The design contract also includes ongoing architectural and engineering work throughout the construction process, ensuring that the vision for Lakeline Park is realized effectively.

Background and Future Plans

Lakeline Park, which opened in March 2023, already boasts a playground, 4 miles of paved trails, 10 acres of athletic fields, and a large lawn. The funding for Phase 2’s design was approved by voters as part of Cedar Park’s 2022 bond program. While the construction budget is yet to be finalized, it will be influenced by the outcomes of the engineering and design process.

Senior project manager Caleb Stockton stated that the design process is expected to be completed by spring 2027, with construction commencing in summer 2027. The city aims to unveil the Phase 2 improvements by fall 2028.

Connecting the Community

In addition to the park enhancements, Cedar Park plans to construct a pedestrian bridge over Bell Boulevard. This bridge will connect Lakeline Park to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail and the Twin Lakes Family YMCA campus, further integrating the park into the community’s recreational infrastructure. This project is anticipated to be completed by early 2028.
