Greg Hull Secures GOP Nomination for New Mexico Governor

In a significant development for New Mexico’s political landscape, Greg Hull, the former mayor of Rio Rancho, has secured the Republican nomination for governor. With 92% of precincts reporting, Hull garnered 47% of the votes, surpassing his competitors Doug Turner, an Albuquerque businessman, and Duke Rodriguez, a healthcare executive.

Republican Race

Hull’s victory is noteworthy as he is one of the longest-serving mayors in the state, bringing a wealth of experience to his gubernatorial campaign. His leadership in Rio Rancho has been characterized by a focus on local governance and community development, which he aims to extend to the state level.

Democratic Primary

On the Democratic side, Deb Haaland emerged victorious with 72% of the votes against Sam Bregman. Haaland, who previously served as the U.S. Interior Secretary under former President Joe Biden, has a strong background in managing federal public lands, natural resources, and tribal affairs. Her experience as a U.S. Representative for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District from 2019 to 2021 further solidifies her political credentials.

Bregman, a trial lawyer with a history of public service as a deputy state auditor and a member of the Albuquerque City Council, was unable to overcome Haaland’s substantial lead.

Looking Ahead

As the general election approaches, both Hull and Haaland will focus on addressing key issues facing New Mexico, including economic development, education, and healthcare. The outcome of this election will be pivotal in shaping the state’s future policies and governance.
