University of Missouri Launches Probe After Undercover Video Shows Ongoing DEI Activities

The University of Missouri announced Tuesday that it will investigate both an individual employee and the campus unit featured in an undercover video that appears to show continued diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work under different wording. The video, released by the advocacy group Accuracy in Media (AIM), focuses on The Bridge, a program housed within Mizzou’s College of Education & Human Development.

Video details and university response

In the recording, academic adviser Ainsley Acuff, identified by AIM and confirmed by the university directory, says The Bridge is “really focused on DEI.” She describes events, programming and discussions that students can attend. A second, unnamed speaker – identified by AIM as a student staffer – explains that the office overseeing The Bridge has been moved to a college engagement and recruitment office, but adds, “we’re still trying to do the work,” and notes that activities will continue under “different wording.”

School‑choice advocate Corey DeAngelis shared the video on Tuesday, questioning whether the university has truly ended DEI programming. Mizzou responded that it will investigate “the individual and the unit in the video” and will take appropriate action if any violations of university policies or federal or state law are found.

University’s stated compliance with state law

The university says it has voluntarily eliminated all DEI programs and DEI requirements from its curriculum and has complied with federal directives to end DEI research projects. Mizzou also denied any discrimination or preferential treatment based on race, color or national origin.

There is a dispute over when the video was recorded. Mizzou claims the footage dates to last year, during its elimination of DEI programs. AIM President Adam Guillette counters that his group conducted the investigation in January 2026. The public statements do not resolve the discrepancy, and the release of the video this week does not confirm when the conversations occurred or whether the described activities continue today.

Background on The Bridge and state funding restrictions

The Bridge was launched in August 2015, according to a City of Columbia resource page that lists developing social‑justice perspectives as its goal and describes learning, training and service tied to diversity, inclusion and equity. The university’s college directory also lists an educational programming coordinator and student clerical assistants for The Bridge, confirming university‑affiliated roles, though it does not disclose program funding or any violation of DEI restrictions.

In a 2024 reorganization announcement, University of Missouri President Mun Choi outlined new reporting lines for units within the Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, stating that existing staff would continue serving students and that support and success programs would remain available after the reorganization.

Missouri’s fiscal 2026 higher‑education budget, covering July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, includes language barring state funding for university contracts, programs or positions focused solely on DEI or similar initiatives. The video alone does not establish which funds, if any, supported The Bridge or whether specific spending violated that provision.

Regional context

In Texas, The Dallas Express previously documented twelve Dallas College job postings that contained DEI expectations after the state’s higher‑education DEI restrictions took effect. Dallas College said the postings appeared to conflict with its compliance commitment and pledged to review and remove them.

The University of Missouri investigation underscores ongoing tensions between higher‑education institutions and state policymakers seeking to limit DEI initiatives. As the probe proceeds, stakeholders will watch for any findings that could affect future funding and program structures across Missouri’s public universities.
