Greenville Completes $2.1M Sidewalk Project Enhancing Community Connectivity

The city of Greenville has successfully completed a significant $2.1 million sidewalk infrastructure project, enhancing pedestrian access along Mohawk Drive and Chick Springs Road. This project, which began in January 2025 and concluded in May, spans approximately 0.8 miles from Wade Hampton Boulevard to Lotus Court, marking the largest sidewalk installation under a single project in the city.

Community Advocacy and Infrastructure Improvements

Residents of the North Main, Dellwood, and Stone Lake neighborhoods have long advocated for these sidewalks, citing the lack of pedestrian infrastructure as a barrier between communities. Greenville City Councilmember John DeWorken emphasized the project’s role in uniting neighborhoods, stating, “Today’s a celebration of bringing communities together and enhancing the quality of life for Greenville residents.”

The project was funded through the city’s neighborhood infrastructure bond. Councilmember Dorothy Dowe highlighted the significant investment in sidewalks, noting that over $23 million has been allocated to such projects citywide. The recent improvements include pedestrian lighting, landscaping, stormwater upgrades, on-street parking, and planters, with a speed table added at the intersection of Mohawk Drive and Kerry Street.

Future Developments

In addition to the completed sidewalks, construction has commenced on a traffic calming project to install a roundabout at the intersection of Mohawk Drive and Chick Springs Road. This project, led by assistant city engineer Eddie Littleton, is expected to be completed in approximately two months, further enhancing road safety and traffic flow in the area.

The completion of these projects underscores Greenville’s commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering community connectivity, reflecting the city’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
