Public Policy Solutions launches six‑figure ad urging President Trump to block prescription‑drug ad ban

Public Policy Solutions, a policy‑advocacy organization, announced Monday that it is funding a six‑figure advertising campaign aimed at President Donald Trump. The ads ask the President to oppose a proposed ban on direct‑to‑consumer prescription‑drug advertising.

The campaign targets lawmakers identified as democratic socialists, including Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and others who have supported legislation to prohibit drug ads. The group argues that such a ban would limit patients’ ability to learn about treatment options and expand government control over medical information.

Key messages in the ad

The advertisement quotes President Trump saying, “We don’t negotiate with communists,” and frames the proposed ban as a step toward broader censorship. It warns, “Today it’s drug ads, tomorrow it’s fossil fuels, farming and food, and any business the left doesn’t like.”

John Czwartacki, co‑founder of Public Policy Solutions, said drug ads provide a valuable service. “Even under current restrictions, pharmaceutical ads raise awareness of available potential treatments,” he told The Center Square. He added that the ads have helped him discuss treatment options with his doctors.

Legislative background

Last year, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Angus King of Maine introduced the End Prescription Drug Ads Now Act, which would prohibit pharmaceutical companies from advertising directly to consumers on television, radio, print, digital platforms, and social media. Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York, and Rep. Maxine Dexter of Oregon backed the House version in July 2025.

Supporters of the ban argue that drug ads drive up prescription costs and can mislead the public. Sen. King said, “The widespread use of direct‑to‑consumer advertising by pharmaceutical companies drives up costs and doesn’t necessarily make patients healthier.”

Administration response

The Trump administration has already taken steps to tighten rules on prescription‑drug advertising. In September 2025, President Trump directed federal health officials to require more information about drug risks and to enforce rules against misleading ads. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also called for stricter oversight.

Czwartacki cautioned that further limits could leave patients with less reliable information. “Further censoring the most regulated, most accountable form of TV ads will leave patients vulnerable to bad actors and misinformation,” he said. “If they can restrict commercial free speech, it won’t stop at drug ads. Any industry the left doesn’t like could be next.”
