In an exciting opportunity for adventurers, Levi, a resort in northern Finland, is hosting a summer-long treasure hunt with a gold bar worth 20,000 euros ($23,300) as the prize. Known for its winter ski slopes and stunning views of the Northern Lights, Levi is now offering a new reason to visit during the summer months.
Exploring Levi’s Trails
The Midnight Sun Hunt begins on June 18 at the Levi Visitor Centre. Participants can register and collect their first clue at the center. From there, they will receive additional clues guiding them through local trails, attractions, and landmarks, each bringing them closer to the hidden gold. The final clue is set to be revealed on August 22, but the gold could be discovered at any point during the hunt.
Levi is situated above the Arctic Circle and is renowned as one of Finland’s premier ski destinations. However, during the summer, the region experiences the midnight sun, offering 24-hour sunlight and a unique opportunity to explore its natural beauty.
A New Summer Adventure
Satu Pesonen, CEO of Visit Levi, expressed excitement about showcasing Levi’s summer offerings. “Levi is known above all for its winter, but the northern summer is still undiscovered by many,” Pesonen said. The resort aims to attract visitors with activities like paragliding, hiking, river rafting, and mountain biking, in addition to the treasure hunt.
The event is organized in cooperation with Agnico Eagle Finland, a gold mining company based in Kittilä, and Levi Ski Resort. Participants are encouraged to move responsibly, stay within permitted areas, and respect the natural environment. The hunt does not require any digging or disturbance of the terrain.
