Polish authorities tighten school security after third attack in a week

Warsaw, Poland – A third school attack this week left three adults injured after a 15‑year‑old assailant entered a vocational school in the Mazovian province with a dangerous object. The incident follows two earlier attacks that resulted in one death and multiple injuries.

Escalated security response

Police reported detaining 76 individuals and checking nearly 50,000 schools nationwide as part of a broad effort to prevent further violence. On Friday, many schools suspended classes, parents kept children at home, and police patrols were deployed to campuses.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stressed, “There will be no compromise here. The safety of the youth is the most important thing.” School directors in the region added extra staff at entrances and began voluntary backpack checks.

Details of the latest attack

The 15‑year‑old attacker, who wore a camera to record the event, wounded three adults before being overpowered by school director Krzysztof Ochmański. Ochmański later recounted that the teen appeared to realize the gravity of his actions and asked for help, even seeking a hug.

Earlier incidents this week included a 19‑year‑old student who injured nine people with a sharp object and a 15‑year‑old who killed a school custodian and wounded two others with a knife.

Government’s next steps

Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that current law does not allow authorities to block harmful online content in real time, saying, “If that juvenile attacker had streamed the crime online today, we would have been unable to block that content because we have not been given that legal tool.” The liberal government pledged to renew efforts to pass a bill that would give officials the ability to block such material.

Authorities also noted that rumors of coordinated attacks and a so‑called “bloody Friday” were circulating in parents’ online groups, though no evidence has emerged linking the incidents.

Community impact

Parents across Poland are now seeking guidance on how to discuss school violence with their children. Officials say crisis‑training for schools will continue, and additional security measures are expected to remain in place.
