Tigers’ Tarik Skubal Nears Return with Upcoming Rehab Start

Detroit Tigers’ standout pitcher Tarik Skubal is on the verge of returning to the mound following a successful simulated game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The two-time American League Cy Young Award winner threw 64 pitches, 45 of which were strikes, over four innings, demonstrating his readiness for a rehab start as early as this weekend.

Progress and Recovery

Skubal, who has been sidelined since early May due to loose bodies in his left elbow, underwent an arthroscopic procedure to remove debris. Fortunately, doctors confirmed there was no additional ligament damage. His manager, A.J. Hinch, expressed optimism about Skubal’s progress, noting that his velocity was back to normal and his competitive spirit was evident.

In his seven starts this season, Skubal has maintained an impressive 2.70 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, with 45 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings. His return is eagerly anticipated by the Tigers, who have struggled in his absence, posting a 7-22 record since his last appearance.

Looking Ahead

Skubal himself is feeling positive about his recovery, stating, “I feel great now, went through all my post-throw stuff in the weight room and the training room and I feel good.” As the Tigers look to improve their standing in the league, Skubal’s return could provide a much-needed boost to their pitching lineup.
