Des Moines Third Grader Hosts Lemonade Stand for Clean Water Cause

In Des Moines, a third grader named Tessa Carruthers-Green has taken a classroom lesson to heart, setting up a lemonade stand to support clean water initiatives. Her stand, located on Ingersoll Avenue during The Market at Oak Park, offers lemonade and chocolate chip cookies to raise funds for the Ryan’s Well Foundation.

Supporting Education Through Clean Water

The Ryan’s Well Foundation is dedicated to building wells and cleaning systems in Uganda and Ghana, aiming to improve educational opportunities for girls. Tessa expressed her motivation, saying, “I just felt bad for those kids that didn’t get to have an education and it’s mostly girls. And I think girls should have the same opportunity as boys to have a good education.”

Tessa’s initiative highlights the impact that even the youngest members of a community can have when they are inspired to take action. With the help of her friends, she turned a simple idea into a meaningful project that not only raises awareness but also contributes to a global cause.
