New Orleans – Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is confident his sore left hand will not keep him from playing Sunday’s home game against the Minnesota Vikings. The 27‑year‑old said the injury is merely a “bump and bruise” that he can manage.
Injury details and recovery
Shough’s non‑throwing hand was wrapped during the team’s Wednesday walk‑through after being listed as limited on the injury report. The injury occurred when his hand was struck during the Saints’ 45‑24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night.
“Just something to keep working on,” Shough said in a team‑released video. “Just got it banged up in the game. Nothing different than anybody else is dealing with, quite honestly. Just bumps and bruises and stuff like that.”
Performance despite the setback
Despite the hand injury, Shough played the entire game against Atlanta, completing 30 of 48 passes for 286 yards and one touchdown. The Falcons recorded 12 quarterback hits and two sacks on him, underscoring the physical nature of the contest.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s matchup, Shough added, “It’s a shorter week, so I’m obviously sore today, but it’s not going to limit me really at all.” The Saints enter the game with a 1‑3 home record but a 4‑0 road record.
Season statistics
Shough has been a workhorse for New Orleans this season, playing all 306 offensive snaps. He leads the league in completions (121) and attempts (180). To date, he has thrown for 1,203 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions, and he has added 72 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 16 carries.
His rookie season in 2025 earned him a spot on the NFL All‑Rookie Team after completing 67.6% of his passes for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in 11 games, finishing with a 5‑4 record as a starter.
Injury report snapshot
The latest Saints injury report listed running back Alvin Kamara (back), wide receiver Chris Olave (rest), linebacker Kaden Elliss (calf), edge rusher Anfernee Jennings (knee) and wide receiver/return specialist Barion Brown (thigh) as “did not practice.” Shough’s hand remains the only quarterback concern.
Fans can expect Shough to take the field Sunday, trusting his preparation and the medical staff’s assessment that the hand injury will not hinder his performance.
