A tragic accident on I-95 in Stafford, Virginia, claimed the life of 25-year-old Priscilla Ramos Mafalda, a resident of Worcester, Massachusetts. The incident occurred when a bus, reportedly traveling at a high speed, failed to slow down for a work zone and collided with several vehicles, including the SUV in which Ramos was a passenger.
Ramos’s husband remains in grave condition following the crash, which also claimed the lives of a family of four, also from Massachusetts. The accident has left the local community in mourning, as friends and family remember Ramos as a beacon of joy and kindness.
“Today, we say goodbye to someone very special, but we will never say goodbye to the memories and love she left in our hearts,” said Ivan Ramos, a cousin of Priscilla, in a statement. Her former employer, Monique Almeida, described her as a young woman full of dreams and plans, who was sweet, kind, and hardworking.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The National Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team to Stafford to investigate the crash. The bus driver, Jing Dong, has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Authorities noted that Dong was driving at a “high rate of speed,” though the exact speed is still under investigation.
Dong, who remains hospitalized, was scheduled to appear in court for a separate incident in March, where he was cited for driving 72 mph in a 50 mph zone in Maryland. The North Carolina-based bus company has not commented on the incident.
In addition to the fatalities, more than three dozen people sustained injuries in the crash, with three individuals still hospitalized with serious injuries. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event, as investigations seek to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
