BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama is hopeful that transfer tight end Josh Ford will be available for Saturday night’s high‑stakes SEC clash with No. 2 Georgia, despite the broken arm he suffered last week against Mississippi State.
Ford underwent surgery on Sunday to repair the injury. Head coach Kalen DeBoer told the SEC teleconference, “He actually broke his arm in the game on Saturday, had surgery on Sunday. He’s determined to get on the football field. He’s progressing along fairly well right now. We’ll see how the week continues for him. I know where his mindset is at.” DeBoer added that the staff will ensure Ford meets the physical standards required before he suits up.
Game plans amid hurricane threat
SEC officials, along with Alabama and Georgia, continue to discuss logistics as Hurricane Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast. Current plans keep the game on Saturday in Tuscaloosa as scheduled, though a kickoff‑time adjustment remains possible to allow the storm to pass and field conditions to be managed.
College GameDay is slated to broadcast from its usual spot across from Bryant‑Denny Stadium, but organizers may relocate the show if weather concerns dictate.
President Trump’s potential attendance
President Donald Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, said he loves Alabama football and intends to attend the game, but he does not want to distract emergency responders. “If there’s an emergency or a hurricane, I don’t want to take the focus off the great people who are working on those things,” Trump said. He added, “We’ll have to see. I hadn’t heard about a hurricane. I want people to be safe, that’s all.”
Both the SEC and Alabama will issue updates in the next 24 hours as Isaias nears landfall.
