Residents of Casper, Wyoming, are advised to brace for significant traffic disruptions as the city embarks on several major construction projects this summer. These projects, aimed at improving infrastructure and safety, will impact key intersections and roads, requiring drivers to plan alternative routes.
15th and Wolcott Intersection Closure
The City of Casper has announced that the intersection of 15th Street and Wolcott Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday, June 1, through Friday, June 5. This closure is necessary for traffic signal repair work, which includes boring new conduit and rewiring the intersection. The project is funded by the Natrona One Cent Sales Tax and aims to enhance the reliability and safety of the traffic signals. During non-operational hours, the intersection will function as a temporary four-way stop. Local businesses will remain accessible, and drivers are encouraged to follow posted detours and exercise caution in the area.
Poplar Street Reconstruction
In addition to the intersection closure, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has announced the reconstruction of WYO 220, also known as Poplar Street, between CY Avenue and Collins Drive. This project is set to begin next week and will close the entire stretch to through traffic. Detours will be in place, directing north and south traffic to Ash Street between Collins and CY, while 13th Street will remain open for east and west traffic. Collins Drive and CY Avenue will also remain open. This two-year project will upgrade the road surface, sidewalks, storm sewer, and water lines, among other improvements.
Ongoing Construction on I-25
Furthermore, construction on Interstate 25 is in full swing, with various construction zones scattered throughout the city. Areas such as Wyoming Boulevard near the Eastridge Mall and the 2nd Street intersection are also experiencing construction activity. Residents are urged to stay safe, remain alert, and be patient as these essential infrastructure improvements are carried out.
