Little Rock Trojans Advance to First NCAA Super Regional

The Little Rock Trojans baseball team has achieved a historic milestone by advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in the program’s history. This significant achievement comes after the Trojans completed a stunning sweep of the Hattiesburg Regional, culminating in a 6-3 victory over Jacksonville State late Sunday night.

Historic Achievement

Just two seasons ago, Little Rock had never won an NCAA Tournament game. Now, they stand among the final 16 teams in the tournament. According to PEAR Ratings, the Trojans entered the weekend with only a 1.6% chance of winning the regional, making their success all the more remarkable.

Last season, Little Rock made waves by defeating LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional, although they ultimately fell short of advancing after losing to the Tigers in a subsequent game. This year, however, the Trojans captured the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament championship, securing a second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

Path to Victory

The Trojans began their regional play with a 7-4 upset victory over No. 9 national seed Southern Miss on Friday. They continued their winning streak with an 8-6 triumph over Jacksonville State on Saturday, followed by another victory against the Gamecocks on Sunday to clinch the regional title.

Looking ahead, Little Rock will face the winner of the Troy-Florida matchup in a best-of-three Super Regional series next weekend. A victory in this series would earn them a coveted spot in the College World Series, marking another first for the program.
