Veterans residing in North Alabama’s Madison, Jackson, and Limestone Counties have a new opportunity to enhance their living conditions through the Veteran Home Repair Program launched by Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley. This initiative provides eligible veterans with free critical home repairs and modifications, ranging from HVAC systems to accessibility improvements.
Program Details and Eligibility
The program, which began accepting applications on May 26, is open to veterans with any discharge type except dishonorable. The focus is on ensuring that veterans can maintain safe, secure, and comfortable homes without the burden of repair costs. Habitat for Humanity’s Executive Director, Jeremy Foulks, emphasized the importance of keeping veterans in their homes, especially given the current housing challenges.
“It was really an exciting opportunity for us to expand our program to keep people in their homes,” Foulks stated. “By providing those repairs and partnering with the community, we can help veterans avoid the difficult task of finding new housing.”
Community Impact and Application Process
The program targets more rural areas within Limestone and Jackson Counties, while also addressing needs in Madison County. Foulks noted the lack of similar repair services in these regions, highlighting the program’s significance in serving the veteran community.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the funds are depleted. Veterans in need of repairs such as exterior work, HVAC and water heater repairs, accessibility modifications, and more are encouraged to apply. Interested veterans can submit their applications online at the Habitat for Humanity website or visit their office in Huntsville.
This initiative underscores the community’s commitment to supporting veterans, aligning with the values of family, faith, and individual liberty by ensuring that those who have served the nation can live with dignity and comfort in their own homes.
