A dramatic incident unfolded in Dallas when a suspect, initially detained during a traffic stop, managed to briefly hijack a police squad car. The event took place on the R.L. Thornton Freeway near Beckley Avenue, according to the Dallas Police Department.

The suspect was taken into custody by Dallas police officers on the 2300 block of South Marsalis Avenue. While being transported to jail at around 6:10 p.m., the suspect somehow gained control of the police vehicle, even with an officer still inside.
The officer managed to regain control of the vehicle, but not before the suspect jumped out of the moving car onto the freeway. This prompted a swift response from Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel, who transported both the officer and the suspect to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Current Status
The officer sustained minor injuries and has since been treated and released from the hospital. The suspect remains hospitalized, and as a result, their identity and specific charges have not been disclosed.
The Dallas Police Department has initiated an investigation to understand how the suspect was able to take control of the vehicle and the circumstances leading to the freeway jump.
