Pulaski Day Parade celebrates Polish heritage on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Philadelphia residents and visitors streamed onto the Benjamin Franklin Parkway today for the 93rd annual Pulaski Day Parade, a long‑standing celebration of Polish American heritage. The parade, organized by the Polish American Cultural Center, featured traditional music, folk dancing, colorful costumes and a marching band that highlighted the community’s contributions to the city’s cultural tapestry.

Community pride on display

“The Polish have a lot to offer, and that’s important that we maintain our roots…letting the people know that we are proud to be who we are,” said Michael Blichasz, President of the Polish American Cultural Center, as the procession wound its way past iconic landmarks on the Parkway. Spectators lined the streets, waving flags and cheering as floats depicting historic scenes and modern achievements rolled by.

Live coverage and local partnership

6ABC WPVI‑TV served as the official media partner, providing live coverage that captured the energy of the event for viewers across the region. The station’s on‑air talent interviewed participants, highlighted the significance of General Casimir Pulaski’s legacy, and emphasized the parade’s role in fostering cross‑generational connections within the Polish community.

Why the parade matters

Beyond the music and dance, the Pulaski Day Parade serves as a reminder of the deep roots Polish immigrants have planted in Pennsylvania. From the coal mines of the early 20th century to today’s thriving businesses and churches, Polish Americans have contributed to the state’s economic and cultural development. The parade offers an opportunity for families to teach younger generations about their heritage while inviting the broader public to share in the celebration.

Looking ahead

Organizers announced plans to expand the parade’s outreach next year, including additional youth workshops and a partnership with local schools to incorporate Polish history into curricula. The Polish American Cultural Center also invited community members to visit its website for information on upcoming cultural events, language classes and volunteer opportunities.

For those who missed the live broadcast, a video recap is available on the 6ABC website, and further details about future Pulaski Day activities can be found on the Polish American Cultural Center’s site.
