Driver Faces Multiple Charges After High-Speed Pursuit in Helena-West Helena

In Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, a high-speed pursuit ended with the arrest of Antonio Jermaine Walker on May 21. The chase began when Trooper Medley attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Cruze for operating without tag lights near O’Reilly Auto Parts on North Sebastian Street.

According to the Arkansas State Police report, Walker fled the scene, leading officers on a chase that reached speeds of 60 mph. The pursuit involved two Tactical Vehicle Interventions (TVIs) to stop the vehicle. The first TVI occurred at Kentucky Street and Anderson Street but was unsuccessful. Trooper Taylor joined the pursuit as a secondary unit.

The suspect continued to evade officers by driving the wrong way on North Second Street. A second TVI on North Second Street at East Garland Avenue successfully disabled the vehicle. Walker then fled on foot, discarding a bag and an open container of Miller Lite beer during his escape attempt.

Walker was apprehended behind a Dollar General store on Sebastian Street, where he resisted arrest. A search of his vehicle revealed a suspected marijuana blunt and a glass pipe with residue. Authorities reported that Walker refused to provide a urine sample after being read his rights, leading to an additional charge.

Walker faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing by vehicle, fleeing on foot, open container violation, first-degree criminal mischief, driving on a suspended license, first-offense DWI drugs, resisting arrest, refusal to submit to a chemical test, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of an instrument of crime, no liability insurance, and failure to register vehicle/expired tags.

Arkansas State Police plan to seek restitution for damage to the patrol vehicle. Walker remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
