Amistad Celebrates Community Service, Honors LULAC at Annual Awards

In El Paso, Texas, the Amistad organization held its annual Lucy G. Humanitarian Awards on Saturday evening, celebrating community service and raising funds to support those in need across the region. The event underscored Amistad’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations, including older adults, at-risk individuals, and people with disabilities.

Recognizing Community Contributions

This year’s prestigious Lucy G. Humanitarian Award was presented to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in recognition of its significant contributions to the community. LULAC’s efforts align with Amistad’s mission to provide assistance and resources to residents throughout the region, a mission that has been ongoing since 1976.

Amistad currently offers more than 40 programs that serve thousands of people, addressing a variety of social, educational, and support needs. These programs are vital for families and individuals facing challenges, and the funds raised from the awards event will help expand these services further.

A Legacy of Impact

Andrea Margaret Ramirez, CEO of Amistad, highlighted the organization’s long-standing impact on families. “This is more than just a passion,” Ramirez stated. “This is something that I remember as a child that kept us bright, and we had a positive light because of an agency like Amistad.” Her words reflect the deep-rooted influence Amistad has had on the community, fostering a spirit of service and support for generations.

The proceeds from the event will enable Amistad to continue its vital work, providing support and resources to those facing challenges throughout Southeast Texas. The organization’s dedication to community service and its recognition of LULAC’s contributions exemplify the power of collective efforts in strengthening local communities.
