The WPBF First Warning meteorologists brought excitement and education to West Palm Beach with their Junior Weather Watchers event at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium. This engaging event was designed to inspire young minds with a passion for meteorology and weather science.
Interactive Learning for Kids
Children who attended the event were treated to a variety of immersive weather activities, allowing them to learn about meteorology in a fun and interactive way. Participants had the opportunity to earn an official Junior Meteorologist certificate, recognizing their newfound knowledge and enthusiasm for weather science.
The event was hosted by WPBF’s entire First Warning weather team, including Chief Meteorologist Cris Martinez, along with Meteorologists Glenn Glazer, Sandra Shaw, Nikki Sheaks, and Brooke Silverang. The team expressed their excitement about the event and their partnership with the Cox Science Center, which helped make the inaugural Junior Weather Watchers class a success.
Community Engagement and Education
Admission to the event was free, and registration was sold out, highlighting the community’s interest in educational opportunities for children. The Cox Science Center and Aquarium, located at 4801 Dreher Trail North, offers more than 100 hands-on exhibits, a digital planetarium, a 10,000-gallon aquarium, and an outdoor science trail, making it an ideal venue for such educational events.
In addition to the Junior Weather Watchers event, the Science Center is currently hosting “Brick Planet: A Magical Journey Made with Lego Bricks,” an exhibition featuring 30 giant wildlife sculptures crafted entirely from Lego bricks. This exhibition runs through September 27, providing another exciting opportunity for families to explore and learn together.
WPBF’s commitment to providing accurate weather forecasts and engaging with the community is evident in their ongoing efforts to educate and inspire the next generation of meteorologists. As they celebrate 12 years of delivering South Florida’s most accurate weather forecasts, events like these reinforce their dedication to community involvement and education.
