Shreveport, La. – A federal detention hearing on Tuesday confirmed that Tre’veon Jackson, 24, will remain in custody while authorities pursue multiple pending cases. Jackson, who escaped from a medical transport on Sept. 14, faces a federal carjacking charge stemming from an incident that took place shortly after his escape.
Escape and subsequent offenses
Jackson was being escorted to a Caddo Correctional Center transport van at Ochsner LSU Health hospital in Shreveport when he fled custody. Within about 30 minutes he was located at a hotel on the Louisiana Boardwalk, where federal officials allege he carjacked a vehicle after the driver refused to give him a ride. The driver sustained assorted injuries during the attack.
Law enforcement in Bossier City recovered the stolen SUV and pursued Jackson at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase ended when Jackson crashed the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Arrest and detention
The U.S. Attorney’s Office secured an arrest warrant on Sept. 17, prompting the U.S. Marshals Service to join the manhunt. Marshals were minutes away when Jackson was spotted exiting a vehicle on a college campus in Marshall, Texas. He was taken into custody without incident and returned to Louisiana a few days later.
Jackson is now housed at the Bossier Maximum Security Jail in Plain Dealing. Bonds in his pending cases total more than $4 million, leading the court to order that he remain in federal custody. His next federal arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 14.
Other pending matters
In addition to the federal carjacking charge, Jackson faces a habitual‑offender sentencing in Caddo District Court for an armed robbery conviction from October of last year. He is also charged in two separate homicides that occurred in 2021, two days apart.
A federal grand jury is expected to convene in the coming weeks to consider additional charges related to his recent conduct.
