Arizona’s Mason Lawyer has secured his place in the NCAA Championships after a stellar performance at the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Lawyer, who is the Big 12 champion in both the 100m and 200m dashes, qualified for the championships in both events, showcasing his speed and determination.
On Friday, Lawyer finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 10.03 seconds and took fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 20.28 seconds. His performances place him among the top five in the NCAA for both events, positioning him as a strong contender for the national title when the championships take place from June 10-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
In addition to his individual successes, Lawyer contributed to the Arizona men’s 4x100m relay team, which also qualified for the championships. The team, consisting of James Onanubosi, John Paredes, Parker Duskin, and Lawyer, finished eighth with a time of 39.02 seconds.
John Paredes further demonstrated his athletic prowess by qualifying in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.47 seconds, earning him an 11th place finish. Meanwhile, Antone Smith secured a spot in the championships with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, achieving a mark of 16.59 meters.
In the field events, Sam Hala’Ufia represented Arizona in the discus, qualifying with a mark of 56.92 meters, which earned him 10th place.
