Sheila Bridges partners with Philly‑born COMOCO to launch “Reclaiming Cotton” apparel line

Philadelphia – Interior designer and native Philadelphian Sheila Bridges has joined forces with culinary historian Stephen Satterfield’s COMOCO Cotton to debut a new apparel collection that blends city pride with a powerful cultural narrative.

Local roots, national inspiration

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Bridges is best known for her high‑end interior work featured on magazine covers and in elite homes across the country. In this more relaxed venture, she brings that design sensibility to a line of hoodies and T‑shirts that proudly display Philly slang and culinary icons – from cheesesteaks to water ice – as a love note to her hometown.

COMOCO’s mission and the cotton story

Stephen Satterfield, host of Netflix’s “High on the Hog,” founded COMOCO Cotton to support Black farmers who grow the nation’s cotton. “We move the cotton through the supply chain, all the way from the gins to spinning mills to knit factories and ultimately finished goods,” he explains. The partnership’s tagline, “Reclaiming Cotton,” aims to rewrite a painful history of slavery and sharecropping into a story of pride, respect, and economic opportunity for today’s growers.

Designs that speak to Philly culture

Bridges says the collection is meant to be “fun” and “easygoing,” yet the intent is anything but casual. “I thought it would be a fun way to introduce people to cheesesteaks, hoagies, scrapple, and water ice – or wooder ice, I should say, like I normally do,” she says. The designs feature bold lettering and graphics that reference iconic Philly foods, turning everyday wear into a conversation starter about the city’s heritage.

Community response and availability

The first run of the COMOCO × Sheila Bridges line sold out quickly, prompting a restock of T‑shirts, hoodies, and additional items made with COMOCO cotton. Local residents have praised the collaboration for its blend of style and substance, noting that the apparel not only looks good but also supports Black farmers and highlights an important chapter of American history.

Supporting Black growers while celebrating Philly

Both Bridges and Satterfield see the collection as a “new birth” for cotton – a chance to elevate the skill and industry of ancestors while providing modern growers with platforms and profits. “There is so much power in that reclamation, that narrative reclamation,” Satterfield adds.

Consumers can view and purchase the collection through the COMOCO website, with proceeds helping to sustain Black‑owned cotton farms and keep the story of the cotton industry moving forward in a positive direction.
