Traffic Delays Expected at University of Arkansas During Walmart Associates Week

Fayetteville residents should brace for significant traffic disruptions as Walmart Associates Week returns to the University of Arkansas campus. This annual event is set to bring thousands of Walmart associates to the area, resulting in road closures and parking restrictions.

Road Closures and Traffic Management

Starting Monday at 5 a.m., Meadow Street will be restricted to authorized vehicles only, with an increased police presence to manage the flow of traffic. Additional restrictions will be implemented on Nolan Richardson Drive on Wednesday and Friday, which are anticipated to be the busiest days of the week.

Assistant Police Chief Matt Mills of the University of Arkansas advises, “The busiest times will probably be during the meals when we’ll see most of the associates coming down to eat and then during the meetings and concerts.”

Event Highlights

Friday’s events at Bud Walton Arena are expected to draw the largest crowds, traditionally featuring celebrity appearances. Road closures will generally be in effect from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Meadow Street Parking Garage will also be unavailable during the event.

Officials recommend that anyone traveling through or visiting the campus plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Road closures are expected to conclude by June 5.

Mills further advises, “If you don’t have to come through campus, find an alternate route. That’ll save you some time. If you do have to come through campus, make sure you leave early enough that you can anticipate and plan for the delays that you might encounter.”
