Interfaith Rally in NYC Protests Mayor Mamdani’s Stance on Antisemitism

In a significant display of interfaith unity, hundreds of protesters gathered near Gracie Mansion in New York City to voice their concerns about Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s handling of antisemitism. The rally, organized by the grassroots group #EndJewHatred, saw participants waving Israeli and American flags as they called for greater protection of the city’s Jewish community.

Community Concerns

Speakers at the event included former “Big Time Rush” star James Maslow, artist Scott LoBaido, and Lawfare Project founder Brooke Goldstein, along with several pro-Israel activists. They accused Mayor Mamdani of neglecting the safety of Jewish residents and failing to confront rising antisemitic incidents, which have surged since the October 2023 attacks by Hamas in Israel.

Ari Ackerman, an entrepreneur and pro-Israel advocate, expressed his dismay, stating, “This is not the New York City I knew and loved.” Rabbi Yaakov Menken of the Coalition for Jewish Values criticized Mamdani’s approach, suggesting that the mayor embodies a modern form of antisemitism.

Interfaith Solidarity

The rally was notable for its diverse representation, with speakers from Jewish, Muslim, and Christian backgrounds. Anila Ali, president of the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council, emphasized the importance of unity, condemning the use of Islam to divide communities. She highlighted the rally’s timing with Eid al-Adha, a significant Islamic holiday, to stress the shared values of faith and peace.

Abraham Hamra, a Syrian Jew, warned of broader threats posed by radical ideologies, urging Americans to “stand up tall” against radical Islam and socialism. The rally underscored a collective call for equal protection under the law, with Goldstein asserting that the rule of law and civil rights are fundamental American values.

Political Implications

Mayor Mamdani’s decision to skip the upcoming Israel Day Parade, a tradition for New York mayors since 1964, further fueled criticism. Influencer Zach Sage Fox remarked, “He’s not attending the Israel Parade, so we’re going to bring the parade to his door.” The rally highlighted frustrations with Mamdani’s perceived inaction on public safety and antisemitism, reflecting broader concerns about the future of New York City.
