High-Speed Pursuit in Arkansas Ends with Arrests and Firearms Seizure

A dramatic high-speed pursuit unfolded in Crittenden County, Arkansas, as state troopers engaged in a chase that reached speeds exceeding 130 mph. The incident began on the Interstate 40 Hernando de Soto Bridge when troopers observed a vehicle traveling at 109 mph in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle, driven by Edwin Bell, initially slowed down but then accelerated again, prompting a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) by the Arkansas State Police.

Pursuit Details and Arrests

The pursuit, which began around 1:30 a.m. on May 11, involved Sgt. Roberts, Trooper Billy Puckett, and Trooper Collier Wright. The vehicle, after initially signaling a stop, sped up to 100 mph and later exceeded 130 mph while weaving through traffic. Troopers executed a second TVI maneuver near the Mound City exit, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and come to a stop after striking a concrete culvert.

Following the stop, both occupants, Edwin Bell and Eric Long, were taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle revealed four firearms, including a Glock 19X 9mm handgun and a Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7, among others. Additionally, troopers found pill bottles with various pills, an open beer can, and a container of marijuana.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Edwin Bell faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, possession of firearms and drugs, and felony fleeing. Eric Long was charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, public intoxication, and other related offenses. Both individuals were transported to the Crittenden County Detention Center, and they remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
