Junior High Football Games Honor Two Girls Lost in UTV Accident

On Thursday evening, the Ramay Junior High and Woodland Junior High football teams gathered at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville for a heartfelt tribute to two local students who tragically lost their lives in a UTV accident over the weekend.

Before the seventh‑grade and eighth‑grade games began, a moment of silence was observed in memory of Savannah Parker and Olivia Pamungkas, both of whom were killed in the crash that occurred Saturday in Goshen. The stadium was bathed in pink light, and pink ribbons were handed out at the entry gates. Many attendees wore pink shirts to show their support for the families.

Elizabeth Gammill, director of spirit and assistant athletic director for Fayetteville Public Schools, explained that the pink theme was chosen because it reflects the “bright spirits” of the two girls. “Seeing the pink tonight just reminds us of the power of community, and that these families are not alone. We stand with them. We stand together. We’re wrapping our arms around them to help them through this tragic loss,” Gammill said.

Community Response and Future Plans

The outpouring of support extended beyond the stadium lights. Parents, teachers, and students expressed a shared desire to keep Savannah and Olivia’s memory alive. Gammill indicated that the district is exploring ways to honor the girls long‑term, including the possibility of establishing scholarships in their names or expanding involvement in the spirit department to foster community engagement.

Razorback Stadium’s pink illumination served as a visual reminder of the unity that can arise from sorrow. Local businesses contributed pink ribbons and shirts, reinforcing the message that the entire Fayetteville community stands together in times of grief.

Impact on the Teams

Both junior high teams approached the game with a sense of purpose, playing not only for victory but also to honor the memory of Savannah and Olivia. Coaches emphasized sportsmanship and the importance of supporting one another, echoing the broader community sentiment.

After the games, students gathered for a brief ceremony where Gammill thanked everyone for their participation and reiterated the district’s commitment to remembering the two girls. She encouraged families to consider contributing to any future scholarship fund, noting that such a tribute would provide lasting support for students who embody the same bright spirit.

The evening concluded with a final flash of pink lighting, symbolizing hope and the enduring strength of the Fayetteville community.
