New Caney – The nonprofit formerly known as the AABY Foundation is rebranding as the ABBY Foundation, an acronym for Animals Better By You. The change comes as longtime founder Kay Pass steps back due to health concerns, but the organization’s mission remains unchanged.
Continuing Services for Pets and Their Owners
ABBY Foundation will keep providing low‑cost pet vaccination clinics, including rabies shots, and free microchipping for dogs and cats. These services are especially valuable for families facing financial strain and for individuals experiencing homelessness who rely on their pets for companionship and safety.
“Our goal is to ensure every pet in New Caney can receive essential care, regardless of a owner’s income,” said Juanita Zavala, the foundation’s clinic coordinator. “We are committed to serving the community just as we have for the past two decades.”
Upcoming Launch Event
The organization’s official launch is set for Oct. 10, the same day it will host a community vaccination clinic. The event is a partnership with Alaska’s Hope, Petco Love, and Three Little Pitties. Attendees can bring dogs and cats for free immunizations and microchip implantation. Pre‑registration is required and can be completed through the foundation’s upcoming website.
History and Transition
Founded in 2004 by Kay Pass, the original AABY Foundation operated a thrift store at 22558 Community Drive, using proceeds to fund animal‑assistance programs throughout New Caney and the greater Houston area. The thrift store closed in August, but the core services will continue under the new ABBY name, with the same board members and leadership team.
“Kay’s vision was always about helping both animals and the people who love them,” Zavala added. “While Kay focuses on her health, the rest of us are ready to carry that vision forward.”
How to Get Involved
Community members who wish to volunteer, donate, or learn more about the upcoming clinic can visit the foundation’s website once it launches. The organization also welcomes partnerships with local businesses and faith‑based groups that share a commitment to caring for animals and supporting vulnerable residents.
