Judge Judy defends love of America, urges critics to leave

During a recent interview with USA Today, television icon Judy Sheindlin, 83, reiterated her deep affection for the United States. “I have a house, and I have a home. I consider America my home. America has been good to me. I think that it’s the greatest country in the world,” she said.

Sheindlin added that anyone who dislikes the nation should “go somewhere else,” warning that newcomers should not expect to reshape the country’s core values. “Don’t come to the greatest country in the world, the most successful country in the world, and say, ‘I want to change it.’ There are other countries that are the something else that you want. Go there. Go there. But don’t come into my home and say, ‘I want to change it,’” she explained.

Capitalism and personal responsibility

Sheindlin praised America’s capitalist system, saying it “revered excellence, that revered entrepreneurship, that revered all the things that made us great.” She noted that whether people like it or not, those qualities remain part of the nation’s fabric.

Nostalgia for a simpler era

The judge also reflected on a growing public yearning for the order and personal responsibility of the 1950s. “I think in the middle of this country, there are more people who long for the 1950s than long for the 2030s,” she told USA Today. She said many Americans miss a time when neighbors respected each other and families could gather without political division.

She expressed concern about today’s media environment, noting that “you can’t pick up a paper without seeing violence and hate speech and antisemitism and racism and cruelty and beheadings.” She added that families often split along liberal and conservative lines, making civil conversation difficult.

Judge Judy’s legacy

The comments coincided with CBS’s celebration of the 30th anniversary of “Judge Judy,” highlighted by a primetime special titled “Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable.” The original series, which premiered in 1996, ran for 25 seasons before ending in 2021. Sheindlin later launched “Judy Justice,” set to conclude in October.

Her son, Judge Adam Levy, now carries on the courtroom tradition with his own series, “Adam’s Law.” While Sheindlin plans to step away from on‑camera appearances, she will continue to work behind the scenes.
