Patrick Clancy speaks on perinatal mental‑health after tragic loss of his children

Boston, MA – In a candid interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Patrick Clancy, the father of three infants who were killed by his ex‑wife Lindsay Clancy in January 2023, shared how he is coping with the loss and why he believes the nation must prioritize perinatal mental‑health care.

Living with the outcome

Clancy told correspondent Ross Douthat that he “did the best I could with what I had at the time” and that he lives with the outcome every day. He recalled the night his children—Cora, Dawson and eight‑month‑old Callan—were found strangled in the basement of their Massachusetts home. One child, Callan, survived the initial attack and lived for four more days in the hospital, where Clancy kept his hand and whispered hopes for his recovery.

Forgiveness and faith

Despite the horror, Clancy said he chose to forgive Lindsay, a decision he described as essential for his own spiritual peace. “If I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever,” he explained, emphasizing that forgiveness helped him avoid being consumed by bitterness.

Clancy’s new wife, fertility specialist Dr. Rachel Danis, whom he met while living in New York City, has been a source of comfort. “Pat is the most selfless father and supportive partner,” Danis said, adding that their shared faith has been a cornerstone of their healing.

Online conspiracy theories

Since the trial ended in a mistrial, Clancy has faced a barrage of online speculation that he was involved in the murders. He described the discourse as “painful to see” and warned that it diverts attention from the crucial issue of perinatal mental‑health care. Lawyers for Clancy have announced plans to pursue legal action against those spreading unfounded theories.

Legal analyst Timothy Cruz, Plymouth County District Attorney, noted that no new charges have been filed against Lindsay Clancy, and a status hearing is set for September 29. The lack of a definitive verdict leaves many questions unanswered, fueling further speculation.

Call for better mental‑health resources

Clancy highlighted that his ex‑wife had been prescribed multiple medications from several doctors between September 2022 and January 2023, yet her condition continued to deteriorate. He urged lawmakers and health providers to improve screening, access to treatment, and support for families dealing with postpartum mental illness.

“The focus should be on preventing tragedies like this by ensuring mothers receive the care they need,” Clancy said. He hopes his story will inspire a national conversation that places perinatal mental health at the forefront of public‑health policy.
