Parent brandishes semi‑automatic rifle at South Fork High School bus stop in Stuart

On Friday morning in Stuart, a parent arrived at a South Fork High School bus stop in Indiantown with a semi‑automatic rifle. The bus driver, noticing a large group of students gathering around the adult and his son, immediately called transportation dispatch and requested law‑enforcement assistance.

School district response

Principal Jaime Thompson sent a note to staff and families after the incident, emphasizing that the district does not tolerate violence, threats, intimidation or any conduct that jeopardizes student safety. She wrote, “We recognize that some families may have already heard about or seen information regarding the incident. We took time before communicating more broadly to gather the facts available to us and allow law enforcement’s initial investigation to progress so that we could share accurate information without interfering with that process.”

Thompson added that limited details could be released because the matter is now under law‑enforcement jurisdiction. “Because this incident occurred at a school bus stop in front of students, we believe it is important that our families hear directly from us,” she said.

Law‑enforcement involvement

Police arrived promptly, assumed control of the scene, and confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The driver’s quick action was praised by the principal, who noted, “The safety of our students remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the bus driver’s immediate action in requesting law‑enforcement assistance.”

Support for students

The district also warned that images, videos or accounts of the incident may continue to circulate online. School staff are available to support any student who may need assistance as a result of what they witnessed. Thompson said the district will review any student conduct associated with the event in accordance with district policies and procedures.

School context

South Fork High School, located at 10000 SW Bulldog Way, serves roughly 1,800 students. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about school‑bus safety and the need for vigilant adult supervision in public spaces where children gather.

Parents and community members are encouraged to stay informed through official school communications and to report any suspicious activity to local authorities promptly.
