Oklahoma City’s St. Anthony Hospital celebrated a major construction milestone on Friday, marking the highest point of its new west entrance with a traditional “topping out” ceremony. The event, held in the Midtown district, featured confetti, a signed steel beam and symbolic touches such as an evergreen tree representing perseverance and an American flag honoring the workers.
Improved access for patients and families
The new entrance, officially named the “Love Family Entrance,” will connect directly to the hospital’s parking garage, creating a smoother, more accessible route for patients, families and staff. Current entrance facilities are over 60 years old and include steep stairs and sloped sidewalks that can be difficult to navigate, especially for those with mobility challenges.
“It will be easy access and a great beginning point to the journey of healing,” said Tammy Powell, regional president of SSM Health, noting that the project has been in development for at least five years and is now moving quickly toward completion.
Generous community support
The entrance bears the name of the Love family, longtime supporters of St. Anthony Hospital who contributed $5 million toward the project. Jenny Love, daughter of Tom and Judy Love, emphasized that the hospital’s focus goes beyond bricks and steel: “We really think about people – the doctors, nurses, caregivers who help people.”
Donors, including the Love family and the Chickasaw Nation, signed the beam that was later lifted into place, symbolizing the community’s shared commitment to the hospital’s mission.
Construction timeline
The 22‑month construction effort is slated for completion in 2027. When finished, the Love Family Entrance will not only improve physical accessibility but also reinforce St. Anthony Hospital’s role as a cornerstone of health care in Oklahoma City, serving families across the region.
