33 New Citizens Celebrate Oath of Allegiance at Yellowstone’s Arch Park

Gardiner, Mont. — On Thursday, Sept. 10, Yellowstone National Park welcomed 33 new U.S. citizens at a heartfelt naturalization ceremony held at Arch Park, the iconic entrance beneath the Roosevelt Arch. The ceremony highlighted the deep connection between America’s most treasured public lands and the families who now call the United States home.

Families from 18 Nations Join the American Community

The new citizens, who reside in neighboring Wyoming and Idaho, arrived from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Moldova, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Saint Lucia, Tunisia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. Their diverse backgrounds reflect the nation’s long tradition of welcoming those who share a love for liberty, faith, and family.

National Parks as Natural Backdrops for Citizenship

Yellowstone’s National Park Service has hosted naturalization ceremonies for more than a decade, and Grand Teton National Park has joined the effort in recent years. In a past press release, the Service explained that holding ceremonies in national parks “advances the meaning and stature of citizenship by building connections between new citizens and America’s parks,” underscoring the “strength and spirit of the United States.”

Why the Setting Matters

For many families, taking the Oath beneath the towering arches of a park that symbolizes America’s commitment to preserving natural beauty is a powerful reminder of the constitutional freedoms they have pledged to protect. The ceremony’s location also offers a tangible illustration of the Constitution’s guarantee of religious liberty and the right to pursue happiness in a land of abundant opportunity.

Local Impact and Community Support

Local officials and community volunteers helped organize the event, providing translation services, refreshments, and a warm welcome for the families. The ceremony not only celebrated the newcomers’ legal status but also reinforced the shared values of faith, family, and individual liberty that bind the Gardiner community together.

Looking Ahead

As the new citizens begin their lives in the United States, they join a growing network of families who contribute to the economic vitality and cultural richness of the region. Their presence strengthens the fabric of local schools, churches, and businesses, ensuring that the spirit of stewardship and gratitude for America’s natural wonders continues for generations.

The National Park Service plans to hold additional naturalization ceremonies in Yellowstone and other parks across the country, further cementing the link between America’s most treasured landscapes and the people who have chosen to call this nation home.
