Lee’s Summit firefighter honored with Super Bowl tickets after award

Lee’s Summit, Mo. – Adam Greeno, a veteran firefighter at Lee’s Summit Fire Station 3, received a once‑in‑a‑lifetime surprise just hours before the Kansas City Chiefs opened their regular‑season game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.

From fire calls to football dreams

Greeno, who also serves on the department’s Health and Wellness Committee, said his career has always been about serving the community and looking out for his fellow firefighters. “It’s not one set thing you’re doing every day. You never know what the next call is going to be,” he explained, noting that the unpredictability keeps the job exciting.

He described the crew at Station 3 as a “second family,” adding, “I really love the guys I work with. It’s a brotherhood here.” Before becoming a firefighter, Greeno worked as a dietician, and he now uses that background to promote healthier meals in the firehouse kitchen, encouraging lean meats, complex carbs, vegetables and grilled preparations.

Firefighter of the Year leads to unexpected honor

Greeno’s dedication earned him the Lee’s Summit Firefighter of the Year award, a recognition he says reflects the collective effort of his crew. “It shows a lot about my crew, and it reflects on them and just how we’re all trying to better ourselves so that we can serve our community better,” he said.

Shortly after receiving the award, Greeno learned that Kansas City Chiefs representatives would visit the station to congratulate him. During that visit, Bill Maas presented Greeno with two tickets to the upcoming Super Bowl and told him he would get to throw the first pass of the game.

Super Bowl surprise at Arrowhead Stadium

When Greeno and his wife, Josie, arrived at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, ESPN upgraded their seats to a few rows from the field and gave them a sideline view as the players warmed up. The couple also met former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who signed a football, a T‑shirt and a hat for Greeno.

The excitement continued on national television when ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown invited Greeno onto the set. Host Scott Van Pelt presented the pair with two golden tickets to the Super Bowl in Los Angeles, California. The studio crew cheered as Josie leapt into Greeno’s arms, and Greeno described the moment as “feels like a dream.”

Honoring heroes on 9/11 anniversary

Van Pelt highlighted the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, remembering the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that day. Greeno said the tribute resonated deeply, noting, “That’s why we do what we do. We want to represent them and keep continuing the legacy of what they did.”

Greeno hopes the Kansas City Chiefs will visit him in Los Angeles for the Super Bowl, adding that the experience has reinforced his commitment to serving both his firehouse family and the broader community.
