Manhunt for armed suspect closes Route 9 in Stoddard, NH

Stoddard, N.H. – State police and local officers began a coordinated search Thursday for Patrick Allen Boyer, a 39‑year‑old man wanted on felony charges, criminal restraint and obstruction of a crime report. The suspect fled from a vehicle pursuit in Keene, ran into a wooded area near Stoddard, and forced a temporary shutdown of Route 9, a major east‑west corridor.

Search details and public safety measures

Authorities reported that Boyer was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a white undershirt, dark pants, and possessing short brown hair and blue eyes. He stands about 5‑foot‑9 and weighs roughly 185 pounds. After the pursuit was called off in Stoddard for public‑safety reasons, officers located his vehicle but the suspect vanished into nearby woods.

State police issued an urgent appeal to residents of Stoddard and the neighboring town of Nelson, urging anyone who observes suspicious activity to call 911 immediately. The highway closure forced traffic onto detour routes via Route 10 and Route 123, adding several minutes to travel times for commuters and emergency responders.

Law enforcement response

Police emphasized that Boyer is considered potentially armed, and officers are proceeding with caution. The search operation continued into the night, with K‑9 units and aerial support deployed to cover the dense forested area. The New Hampshire State Police posted updates on their official Facebook page, reiterating the importance of community vigilance.

Officials have not disclosed the specific felony allegations against Boyer, but the charges indicate a serious threat to public safety. The decision to halt the pursuit in the town’s center was made to avoid endangering bystanders, reflecting a measured approach that balances law‑enforcement objectives with the safety of local families.

Impact on the community

Residents expressed concern over the disruption, noting that Route 9 is a primary artery for school buses, commuters, and local businesses. Several parents reported having to adjust school‑drop‑off routes, while local merchants noted a temporary dip in customer traffic. Despite the inconvenience, community members praised the police for prioritizing safety and keeping the public informed.

The manhunt remains active, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the New Hampshire State Police at 603‑271‑5000 or through the 911 system. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.

What’s next?

Law enforcement officials expect the search to continue through the night, with the possibility of expanding the search perimeter if new leads emerge. The highway detour is expected to remain in place until the suspect is located or the area is deemed safe for reopening.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert, avoid the detour routes if possible, and follow official communications from the New Hampshire State Police for the latest information.
