UNC head coach Bill Belichick says girlfriend Jordon Hudson handles only scheduling, not team decisions

University of North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick addressed recent speculation about the role of his 25‑year‑old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, during a Wall Street Journal interview published Wednesday. Belichick, who is 74, called the notion that Hudson is “trying to be the general manager of the team” “ridiculous” and clarified that her involvement is limited to coordinating his personal schedule.

Clarifying the misunderstanding

“The way the story was picked up was a long way from that. Like, ‘She’s trying to be the general manager of the team,’ and it’s so ridiculous,” Belichick said. He added that Hudson is simply copied on a few emails and helps with appointments that are unrelated to the university’s football operations.

When asked about an email chain that listed Hudson as a recipient for personal appearance requests, the coach responded, “That’s just a flat‑out lie. She is not the GM. She’s not handling everything for me day to day. She’s copied on a few emails and helping out with scheduling unrelated to UNC.”

Busy schedule at the start of his tenure

Belichick explained that his workload was already heavy when he accepted the UNC job in December. “I was doing five TV shows, the radio show, I had a book coming out. I had a lot of other things going on when I took the job,” he said, underscoring why he relies on Hudson for personal logistics.

He also noted that public‑records requests made by Hudson for communications between reporters and university employees were simply requests for documents that had already been sent, not evidence of her involvement in team decisions.

Team performance and public perception

Since the start of the season, the Tar Heels have posted a 2‑0 record, including a 35‑3 victory over East Tennessee State. Belichick said Hudson has kept a low profile, even delaying her first public appearance until the recent win.

Critics have suggested that the relationship could be a distraction, but the coach insists that the focus remains on the football program. “Can’t a man have his girlfriend help out with his schedule? I was a busy man when I took the job,” he asked rhetorically.

Conclusion

While rumors continue to swirl, Belichick remains firm that Jordon Hudson’s role is strictly personal and does not extend to any managerial or coaching responsibilities within the UNC football program.
