Baltimore urges public transit as Ravens and Orioles games overlap on Sunday

On Sunday, September 20, Baltimore will host two major sporting events: the Ravens will open their season at M&T Bank Stadium at 1 p.m., and the Orioles will begin their last home series of the 2026 season at Camden Yards at 7:30 p.m. The overlap of these games is expected to create significant traffic congestion throughout the city.

What drivers need to know

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) is urging residents and visitors to use public transportation whenever possible. Options include the MARC Train, Light Rail, Metro Subway, local bus routes, and the free Charm City Circulator. The MTA website provides up‑to‑date schedules and route information, while the Transit app offers real‑time updates and trip planning. The CharmPass app can be used to purchase and display MTA fares.

Road closures and lane changes

Several streets around both stadiums will be affected:

  • From roughly 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Warner Street will be closed between Worcester and West Ostend Streets for ongoing construction. A special traffic pattern will be in place for fans entering and leaving M&T Bank Stadium, with a northbound one‑way ingress lane and a southbound one‑way egress lane, plus a designated pedestrian walkway.
  • From about 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., additional closures will overlap with Ravens‑related traffic restrictions, further limiting access to the stadium area.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes. Commercial garages and surface lots north of the stadium complex are available, and apps such as SpotHero and ParkMobile let drivers reserve parking spots in advance.

Parking enforcement

All posted parking restrictions and Residential Permit Parking (RPP) regulations will be strictly enforced. Vehicles parked illegally, especially in RPP zones, are subject to ticketing and towing. Drivers whose vehicles are towed should call 311 or 443‑263‑2220 for assistance.

Why the city is emphasizing transit

Heavy traffic not only slows commuters but also creates safety hazards for pedestrians and emergency responders. By encouraging the use of public transit, the city aims to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and ensure that fans can enjoy both games without undue stress. The DOT’s recommendation aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable transportation options for large‑scale events.

Tips for a smoother game day

  • Check the MTA website or Transit app before you leave.
  • Consider using the free Charm City Circulator to travel between downtown and the stadiums.
  • If you must drive, reserve a parking spot ahead of time through SpotHero or ParkMobile.
  • Allow extra time for road closures, especially on Warner Street.
  • Follow posted signs and obey traffic officers to avoid tickets or towing.

By planning ahead and using the city’s transit resources, fans can help keep Baltimore’s streets moving smoothly while enjoying a day of football and baseball.
