Idaho State Police released a detailed report Tuesday evening describing a series of crashes that unfolded on US‑20 near Idaho Falls around 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. The incidents began when a 25‑year‑old male driver from Rigby lost control of his 2017 Audi A4, veering off the roadway, breaching a fence and coming to rest beside the railroad tracks.

Tow Truck Involved in Second Collision

While a tow truck was on scene to assist with the removal of the Audi, a second accident occurred. A 34‑year‑old female driver from Rexburg, traveling eastbound in a 2020 GMC Acadia, slowed to allow emergency crews to work. A 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 68‑year‑old female resident of Idaho Falls, struck the GMC from behind.

All occupants of the GMC were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the GMC was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance for treatment. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding each collision.

Other Fatal Crashes Reported by ISP

In separate releases, Idaho State Police also noted two fatal accidents earlier in the month. One involved a cargo‑truck rollover in Lincoln County that claimed a single life. The other occurred near Twin Falls when an elderly driver, believed to have suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel, was involved in a crash that resulted in one fatality.

Officials urge motorists to remain vigilant, especially when emergency vehicles are present on the road. Maintaining a safe following distance and adhering to posted speed limits can help prevent chain‑reaction crashes like those on US‑20.
