Sheridan County Chamber Announces October Manufacturing Month to Showcase Local Industry

The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a month‑long celebration of manufacturing in October. Chamber Chief Executive Officer Teresa Detimore announced that the event will spotlight the county’s manufacturers, many of which supply critical equipment to the U.S. military and partner with NASA on advanced projects.

Opening Doors to Industry

Detimore explained that the Chamber will coordinate tours of participating facilities, giving the public a rare look inside the plants that power the local economy. “We have manufacturers working with the military on different equipment that they’re sending out. That’s Canon. Then you’ve got LNAH, obviously, who just worked with NASA,” she said.

These tours will be scheduled and posted on the Chamber’s website, Chamber Online, and its Facebook page. The Chamber is working closely with Manufacturing Works, a long‑time partner on the event, to ensure that the schedule is accessible to families and community members.

Connecting Students with Careers

A key goal of Manufacturing Month is to inspire the next generation of workers. Detimore noted that the Chamber routinely reaches out to high schools and middle schools, encouraging students to attend the tours and learn about the variety of careers available in manufacturing. “We always reach out to the high schools and middle schools and say, come on out, take a look, see what careers are out here,” she said.

By exposing students to real‑world workplaces, the Chamber hopes to strengthen the pipeline of skilled labor that local manufacturers need to remain competitive and continue supporting national defense and space exploration initiatives.

Community Support and Economic Impact

Manufacturing remains a cornerstone of Sheridan County’s economy, providing well‑paid jobs and contributing significantly to the tax base. The Chamber’s promotion of the industry aligns with broader efforts to sustain economic growth, attract new investment, and retain talent in the region.

Local business owners have expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming events. One manufacturer, who asked to remain unnamed, said, “Opening our doors helps the community understand what we do and why it matters. It also gives us a chance to recruit young people who might become our future engineers and technicians.”

How to Participate

All tour dates, locations, and registration details will be available on the Chamber’s website and social‑media channels in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to follow the Chamber’s online platforms for updates and to share the information with friends and family.

Manufacturing Month promises to be an educational and celebratory experience for Sheridan County, highlighting the vital role of local industry in national security, space exploration, and community prosperity.
