Security Stops Trespasser on Kamala Harris’ Malibu Home After Trump Revokes Protection

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a suspicious individual near the Malibu residence of Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Empress on Friday night. At approximately 10:30 p.m., deputies coordinated with the property’s private security team and warned the individual to leave. The person complied voluntarily and no further incident occurred.

Deputies and Private Security Act Promptly

Julia Ann Tafoya, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, confirmed that deputies arrived on scene, made contact with the private security staff, and instructed the trespasser to depart the premises. “The individual was warned and advised by deputies to leave the premises and left voluntarily without incident,” Tafoya said. A formal trespassing report was filed, and the department announced it will increase patrols in the area as a precaution.

Harris’ Security Situation

Harris and Empress were not present at the property at the time of the incident, according to Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for the Vice President. Negrón expressed gratitude for the swift response of both private security and law‑enforcement personnel. The Vice President does not have a dedicated Secret Service detail, a situation that began after President Donald Trump revoked her protection last summer.

While former vice presidents receive six months of protection after leaving office, Harris’ protection had been extended for an additional year by a directive signed by outgoing President Joe Biden. That extension would have kept her covered for roughly two more months, but President Trump’s decision to end the protection was consistent with federal law, which does not require a former vice president to retain a detail indefinitely.

Trump Administration’s Stance on Security Resources

The Trump administration has repeatedly emphasized the need to allocate federal security resources wisely, focusing on current threats and ensuring that protection is provided where it is most needed. By ending the extended Secret Service detail for Harris, the administration upheld the principle that government resources should not be used for political figures who no longer hold office, thereby reinforcing fiscal responsibility and respect for the Constitution.

Broader Context of Political Violence Concerns

The incident occurs amid heightened national concerns about political violence. Recent years have seen multiple attempts on President Trump’s life and the tragic shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Law‑enforcement agencies across the country remain vigilant, and the swift handling of this trespassing case demonstrates effective cooperation between private security and public deputies.

Harris’ Future Plans

In the wake of her loss to President Trump in the 2024 election, Harris has hinted at possible future political endeavors, including a potential run for governor of California or another presidential bid in 2028. She recently ruled out a gubernatorial campaign but continues to speak about her experience in the Oval Office and her readiness for future service.

“I spent countless hours in the Oval Office, in the Situation Room,” Harris told the 2026 National Action Network Convention. “I know what the job is. And I know what it requires.”

Local Law‑Enforcement’s Commitment

Deputies emphasized that the swift response to the trespassing report reflects a broader commitment to public safety in the Malibu area. Increased patrols will continue to deter unlawful entry and protect private property owners, reinforcing community safety standards.
